As a new administration prepares to enter the White House and a new Congress convenes, Independent Sector is making clear the values and priorities we hold on behalf of philanthropies, nonprofits, and corporate giving programs nationwide. The charitable sector is the third-largest employer of the U.S. private workforce and contributes nearly 6 percent of our Gross Domestic Product. We are also the essential partner to government in strengthening communities, serving as the critical link to a nation where all people thrive.
Independent Sector is ready to collaborate with any elected leader committed to building a healthy, trusted, and equitable sector, so we can support communities; advance a just democracy; and ensure a vibrant, pluralistic civil society.
The Trump Administration has an immediate opportunity to do what others have not: create a White House Office on the Nonprofit Sector, ensuring the sector has a “seat at the table” where decisions affecting our sector and our communities are made.
