The Janine Lee Mentorship Award honors a remarkable mentor in the charitable sector and celebrates the legacy of Janine Lee, a beloved leader and advisor who inspired countless individuals throughout her 30-year career.
This year’s honoree will be notified in August and will receive the award at Independent Sector’s National Summit 2026 in Phoenix on October 15. Let’s honor the spirit of mentorship that Janine embodied by recognizing those who guide and uplift the next generation of leaders!
Congratulations to Our 2025 Winner: Regina G. Jackson
The winner of the 2025 Janine Lee Mentorship Award is Regina G. Jackson, President and CEO of RGJackson Management Group and former President and CEO of East Oakland Youth Development Center (EOYDC).
After a competitive nationwide nomination and selection process, Regina G. Jackson (‘Mama Gina’) was selected to receive the award at a special presentation during Independent Sector’s National Summit on October 29th, 2025 in Atlanta, Georgia.
“Throughout Regina’s decades of service, she has prepared and promoted generations of young people toward leadership roles in their neighborhoods, schools, and communities—unlocking career opportunities, boosting earning potential, and nurturing a lifelong love for civil engagement. I can think of no one more deserving to carry on the legacy of Janine Lee,” said Dr. Akilah Watkins, President and CEO of Independent Sector.

Remembering Janine Lee
Janine Lee, president and CEO of Independent Sector Member Philanthropy Southeast before passing unexpectedly in February 2024, was an empathetic and sage advisor to many prominent charitable sector leaders.
To honor Janine’s memory, Independent Sector presents the Janine Lee Mentorship Award annually to a mentor leader who embodies the ideals and commitment to the next generation of leaders she exemplified throughout her life.
