Public Charities and Foundations Benefit Virginia Communities

Deliver vital community services
Catholic Charities USA and its network help people, regardless of their faith, who are struggling with poverty and other complex issues,
providing help and hope to neighbors across the country. Their collective efforts in housing, nutrition, integrated health, refugee assistance,
disaster relief, and more serve over 15 million people annually.

Give voice to the people they serve
Working directly in 2,900 schools in 26 states and the District of Columbia, Communities In Schools builds relationships that empower
students to stay in school and succeed in life. The CIS model leverages the most effective strategies in order to provide the resources and
networks students need to stay in school, delivering a 93 percent graduation rate for students in their programs.

Contribute to vibrant communities
A national organization based in Arlington, The Nature Conservancy has protected more than 125 million acres of land. With more than 100
marine conservation projects in 75 countries, the Conservancy employees over 400 scientists for its work.

Advance solutions for challenges facing society
The Virginia Tech Institute for Policy and Governance is actively involved in empirical and theoretical research, and supports sponsored research
endeavors for the School of Public and International Affairs. They engage in research, capacity building, technical assistance and community-based
participatory inquiry with and on behalf of those they serve, principally public, nonprofit and private organizations, and the populations and communities
these entities support.
