Public Charities and Foundations Benefit Connecticut Communities

Deliver vital community services

  • The National Diaper Bank Network strives to resolve a hidden problem with a huge cost—the lack of access to diapers for low-income families who cannot afford them for their infants and toddlers. NDBN and its more than 200 member diaper bank programs distributed more than 67 million donated diapers last year.

Give voice to the people they serve

  • Everyday Democracy, based in Hartford, provides ideas and tools for community change across the country. After the tragic school shootings in Newtown, Everyday Democracy, with the University of Arizona, launched a national dialogue on mental health that has engaged 26,000 young people in 300 communities. They informed SAMHSA’s toolkit on how to convene a community conversation on mental health.

Contribute to vibrant communities

  • From 1982 to November 2018, Newman’s Own Foundation has given more than 22,000 grants totaling over $535,000,000. Guided by their unique principle of “100% of profits to charity”, in 2017 alone the Foundation gave more than 945 grants, totaling $29,386,526.

Advance solutions for challenges facing society

  • The Connecticut Council for Philanthropy works to ensure that its diverse member grantmakers are as effective as possible when they give. They provide trainings, advice, and support to ensure accountability and transparency in grantmaking, as well as a forum for funders to share best practices in philanthropy. CCP members annually grant more than $1.2 billion from assets of more than $8.2 billion.
