Call-to-Action Messages to Advocates:

Subject Line: Congress is about the pass its last real bill for months, and nonprofits could be left out

Issue Summary:  Earlier this year, the Paycheck Protection Program offered a lifeline to many nonprofits, protecting over 4 million nonprofit jobs and allowing organizations to keep serving the community. That help has largely run out for those who were able to access it, smaller organizations struggled to access the funds, and many mid-size and larger organizations were excluded from the program entirely.

Call-to-Action Email to Individual Advocates:

Dear {Name},

Access to forgivable loans has been essential to keep nonprofit organizations serving their community and to prevent nonprofit employees from becoming those in need. At the same time, nonprofits that employ more than 500 people have been comparatively left behind. A recent spot check survey by Independent Sector found that 71% of these organizations have been forced to reduce services while they have collectively had to slash their number of employees nearly in half.

That help has largely run out for those who were able to access it, smaller organizations struggled to access the funds, and many mid-size and larger organizations were excluded from the program entirely.  Policymakers are negotiating another COVID-19 relief package, but the details remain murky and nothing is guaranteed. Please take just one minute today to tell your legislators: Make sure every charitable nonprofit has access to critical loan forgiveness programs.

Many nonprofits and charities are standing on the brink. We need you to ensure they can serve their communities’ urgent needs today and contribute to a healthy civil society in the future. As soon as this bill passes, members of Congress will leave town for socially distant beaches, barbecues and campaign rallies. Don’t let the nonprofit sector get left behind.

Sincerely,

{Organization}

Letter to Congress:

Dear {{target_appropriate_greeting}},

America’s charitable nonprofits are on the front lines of serving their communities during the COVID-19 pandemic, but they face unprecedented challenges of lost revenue, disrupted operations, and surging demand. The millions of Americans who rely on these services are counting on you to ensure that Congress’ next relief package includes critical loan and loan forgiveness options for every charitable nonprofit organization.

Specifically, I stand with over 4,000 nonprofit organizations around the country in urging you to extend and expand the Paycheck Protection Program by enabling a second round of funding for all nonprofits and modifying the eligibility criteria pertaining to 500 employees. I further urge you to authorize and require the Federal Reserve to quickly finalize a nonprofit lending facility that is tailored to accommodate mid-size and large nonprofits including language similar to H.R. 6800 that offers a loan forgiveness option.
