The exponential growth of #GivingTuesday over the last four years has been nothing short of extraordinary. Last year, more than 700,000 people donated $116,000,000 to organizations and causes around the world.
This year, we’re excited to help #GivingTuesday expand in a new direction. The UN Foundation is leading #GiveaGIF, a campaign designed to coincide with Giving Tuesday to spread awareness for issues and organizations across social media using GIFs.
IS Founder John Gardner spoke often of the power of America’s voluntary spirit. Last year, 62.6 million Americans gave 7.8 billion hours of their time to volunteer service. To put that in context, we know that each hour of volunteer time is worth $23.56 – meaning Americans gave time valued at $183,768,000,000 in 2015.
So, for the #GiveaGIF campaign, we decided to animate the incredible value of volunteering and remind folks that one of the most powerful and impactful gifts they can give this holiday season (and the rest of the year, too) is their time.
