Public Charities and Foundations Benefit South Dakota Communities

Deliver vital community services
Feeding South Dakota, a member of Feeding America, distributed more than 12.5 million pounds of food in the fight against hunger. Every week, Feeding South Dakota provides food assistance to 21,000 hungry individuals and families. Through programs like their signature BackPack program, Feeding South Dakota also gives food every weekend to over 5,000 kids who otherwise might go hungry.

Give voice to the people they serve
The Native Youth Leadership Alliance was started by students at Tribal Colleges, which serve low-resourced, primarily rural reservation communities. Through two-year fellowships, the next generation of leaders are supported in their education and provided networking and learning experiences. The goal is to spark positive change in Native American communities.

Contribute to vibrant communities
Headquartered in Sioux Falls the Girl Scouts-Dakota Horizons reaches more than 15,000 girls throughout its region, including 13 Native Indian reservations and three Air Force bases. The Girl Scouts provides leadership skills and programs that promote health and physical activity, financial literacy, STEM education, and community involvement.

Advance solutions for challenges facing society
The Madison Area Arts Council (MAAC) is an art gallery, performance venue, and social club. MAAC typically plans 8-10 shows a year on a shoestring budget of $10,000. This critical support comes from the NEA, the state, the City of Madison, and the South Dakota Art Council.
