Public Charities and Foundations Benefit Hawaii Communities

Contribute to vibrant communities
Hawai’i Alliance of Nonprofit Organizations unites and strengthens
the nonprofit sector as a collective force to improve the quality of
life in Hawai’i. HANO brings together a diverse alliance of
nonprofits, statewide and sector-wide, to network, learn, share
ideas, collaborate, and partner. Together, HANO members put
the collective buying power of the membership to work to save
member organizations time and money.

Advance solutions for challenges facing society
The Hawaii Community Foundation is a trusted, vital resource for
Hawaii’s donors and nonprofits. Through more than 900 funds
established by individuals, families and businesses, the Foundation
distributed more than $62 million in grants annually. The
Foundation granted funds to organizations working in community
and the economy, natural environment, health and wellness,
government and civics, arts and culture, and education.

Provide Jobs to People with Disabilities and Special Needs
Goodwill Hawaii served almost 13,166 people with employment
challenges from 2017-2018 and helped 900 people find jobs, resulting in
$15.3 million in revenue. Goodwill’s Job Connections employment
program provides services and job training to low-income individuals
throughout the state, with sites in Maui and Kauai, as well as Oahu. Over
90% of Goodwill’s revenue goes to directly support their mission.

Promoting resource conservation efforts
The Harold K.L. Castle Foundation is the largest private foundation in
Hawaii. A current focus is on nearshore marine resource conservation.
Since its inception, the foundation has awarded over $176 million in
grants, with more than $60 million going to organizations serving
Windward O‘ahu. Currently, the foundation disburses an average of $6
million in grants per year.
