Public Charities and Foundations Benefit Alaska Communities

Deliver vital community services

  • Bean’s Café operates as a day shelter with 800 daily meals served and provides referrals for wrap-around support services, including veteran services and financial counseling. In 2018, the program worked with community partners to provide and distribute 745,961 meals.

Promote culturally responsive social services

  • The Cook Inlet Tribal Council (CITC) serves more than 12,000 native Alaskan and American Indian people. Its array of support services include education, workforce training, family preservation and support for addiction and substance abuse recovery. Evaluation found its two-year residential recovery men’s program saves the Alaska Department of Corrections nearly $1 million per year.

Contribute to vibrant communities

  • The Foraker Group is dedicated to building a healthy and sustainable Alaska nonprofit sector. The Foraker Group trains nonprofit leaders and convenes over 500 Alaska nonprofit leaders in its Leadership Summit.

Training girls for STEM careers

  • The Girl Scouts of Alaska nurtures 6,000 girls each year. Programming includes STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) activities and interactive distance learning. This builds on national research that found girls are interested in STEM careers but need more exposure and adult support.
