Umer Rupani is director of impact and knowledge at Independent Sector. He is responsible for developing and implementing impact measurement frameworks, fostering knowledge-sharing systems, and aligning program outcomes with organizational goals to support civil society.
Umer has extensive experience in impact evaluation, knowledge management, and equity-based strategy development, with a strong focus on community building and systems thinking. Throughout his career, Umer has worked to design and implement strategies that empower organizations to amplify their impact while centering equity and inclusion. His systems-thinking approach enables him to connect organizational goals with practical, scalable solutions that prioritize collaboration, learning, and long-term sustainability.
Umer’s lifelong commitment to civil society organizations is reflected in his 25 years as an active volunteer and advocate. Previously, Umer was a manager at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, where he optimized program efficiency through data systems and AI-driven tools. He has also held impactful roles at Arabella Advisors, Boost Social Sector Consulting, and the Georgia Muslim Voter Project, where he focused on strategy, evaluation, and advancing community engagement to drive systemic change.
Umer holds a master’s degree in organizational sciences from George Washington University and a bachelor’s degree in industrial and organizational psychology from the University of Georgia.
When not working, Umer enjoys hiking, experimenting with film photography, and reflecting on the larger questions of life.
