Esther Gyory is Policy and Corporate Counsel at Independent Sector. In her role, Esther serves as a strategic legal advisor within the Policy team, offering guidance on emerging legal trends, risks, and opportunities that could affect the health and operations of the charitable nonprofit sector. Esther brings over 17 years of experience in federal campaign finance law and policy with a strong background in the federal rulemaking process and agency operations.
Esther comes to Independent Sector from serving as Chief of Staff and counsel to Chair Shana M. Broussard of the Federal Election Commission. In that role, Esther managed the policy portfolio and advised the Chair on a range of issues including federal campaign finance law, the agency rulemaking process, communications, and organizational administration. Prior to joining Chair Broussard’s staff, she worked in the Office of General Counsel at the FEC, both as a staff attorney and as an Acting Assistant General Counsel for Policy.
Esther earned her B.A. cum laude from the Ohio State University in International Studies and her J.D. with honors from the George Washington University Law School. When she’s not working, Esther enjoys spending time with her two kids and her husband, volunteering for nonprofits in her community, and supporting the Washington Spirit.
