Emily joined Independent Sector as manager, policy research in May 2021, where she advances public policy research that helps increase the capacity of nonprofits to fulfill their missions. Prior to joining Independent Sector, Emily was a research assistant at the Schar School of Policy and Government at George Mason University, contributing to nonprofit studies scholarship. Her experience with national nonprofit organizations began in 2014, working with associations to improve volunteer recruitment, engagement, and retention. Emily holds a masters degree in public administration and a graduate certificate in nonprofit management from George Mason University and a bachelor of arts in Women’s and Gender Studies from the College of Charleston. When she is not investigating different research methods, you can find Emily reading feminist literature with her cats, playing board games with her husband Andrew, and conducting baking experiments.
