Amy Shields is the Director of the Center for Excellence on the Nonprofit Workforce at Independent Sector. Amy leads the development, integration, and stewardship of Independent Sector’s national workforce infrastructure, ensuring that the Center builds the systems the charitable sector relies on to strengthen job quality, well-being, retention, and organizational health. Amy brings experience in workforce development, cross-sector engagement, and translating research into actionable resources. Previously, Amy worked at the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives, leading the organization’s 501(c)(3) foundation and professional development programs. Prior to ACCE, Amy managed publications at Grantmakers for Effective Organizations and was the Director of Research and Strategic Initiatives at the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership. Amy holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a Master’s degree in Public Policy and Management from Carnegie Mellon University. When she’s not working, Amy enjoys teaching Scottish Highland dancing, going to concerts, or visiting national parks.
