About our Fellows
All IS Fellows programs – NGen, Bridging, Upswell, and others – are a part of the Independent Sector community as critically important partners in our shared mission of a healthy and equitable sector.
As Fellows, these leaders commit to their own wellness and personal development, taking on leadership roles within their organization or community, and strive to make deep and impactful change across our sector and country.

Fellows Programs
Independent Sector currently offers the following Fellows program, each with their own eligibility and length of commitment. Fellows associated with a nonprofit, foundation, or other institution will also receive complimentary IS membership for the length of their fellowship.
Alumni Network
A life and career-long network of all Fellows who have participated in any IS Fellowship, primarily driven by the NGen Fellows program.
Bridging Fellows
A two-year engagement with place-based Fellows focusing on bridging specific areas of division, including ideological, racial, socioeconomic, and geographical.
NGen Fellows
The NGen Fellows program provides 12 changemakers, 40 and under, working to build healthy and just communities, a dynamic leadership development opportunity. This nine-month program will strengthen their leadership capacity and grow their personal and professional network.
Upswell Fellows
A year-long engagement with a group placed-based Fellows who participate in Upswell events and unpack learnings together.
