Join a Focus Group to Help Answer: How Do We Know the Nonprofit Sector Is Healthy?
The nonprofit sector is an essential American institution, providing human services, supporting arts and culture, and catalyzing major social change. The COVID-19 pandemic, attacks on democratic systems, economic crisis, and racial equity movement remind us of the sector’s importance to communities nationwide – and its overall health and vital signs.
When doctors measure vital signs, they diagnose the status of their patient’s well-being by comparing their findings against an accepted “healthy” range. Yet, the nonprofit sector doesn’t have shared benchmarks for what constitutes good, fair, or poor sector health. But you can help by providing feedback to Independent Sector – which released its Health of the U.S. Nonprofit Sector annual report in 2020 – about these benchmarks by reserving a seat today to participate in virtual focus groups on February 9, 11, 16, or 18. Independent Sector plans to update its report this year, including health benchmarks for the first time.
Help Independent Sector develop shared benchmarks for what constitutes good, fair, or poor sector “health” across areas, including financial resources, human capital, governance, and public policy. Your input will help establish benchmarks that will enable organizations to identify what constitutes a “healthy” sector, where we are now, and what we all can do to strengthen the health of nonprofit organizations and the sector to better serve communities. Participation is not limited to one focus group. In each interactive focus group, you’ll meet other nonprofit leaders to provide guidance on “how much” of a measure signals that a nonprofit is healthy.
