Antaeus (Tia) Turns-Ashcraft earned her undergraduate degree at St. John Fisher in Rochester, New York and her Master’s in Urban Studies at Long Island University Brooklyn campus. Antaeus now is the director of one of the largest Food Pantries in Harlem called Communities for Healthy Food (CfHF) at West Harlem Harlem Group Assistance Inc. Antaeus and her team have helped serve over 310K NYC community residents and specifically 185K (and counting) during the COVID-19 Pandemic. She has developed 57 partnerships; providing services such as “Client-Choice pantry”, social service referrals for non-food related services such as health care, housing, immigration and legal services. In addition, Antaeus has developed partnerships that provide nutrition education, on-site SNAP Benefit enrollment and recertification, a “mobile pantry delivery service” for home-bound seniors, free healthcare appointments and Farmer’s Market trips. Antaeus has been able to generate over 500K in grants from a variety of local, state and federal programs as well as private foundations, nonprofits and other partnerships from key stakeholders in the community.
