“We are deeply saddened by the events of last week that took a toll on human life in Baton Rouge, St. Paul, and Dallas. In this moment, we cannot allow ourselves to be numb to the loss of the members of our communities, our neighbors, our friends, our loved ones. For an injustice to one member of our human family is an injustice to us all.
Too often as a nation, we have faced the grim reality of violence and the loss of life that has left us struggling for answers to address injustice in our communities. We must confront racism and inequality in our institutions and our communities and work peacefully together to promote the freedom for all to be productive and to pursue full, happy, and rich lives.
At Independent Sector, we are confident that just as we’ve done time and time again after violent and painful moments in our history, our communities and individual Americans can co-create solutions in a peaceful, constructive way.
We must stand together to decide the kind of nation we want to be and the kind of nation we want to pass on to future generations. We cannot just long for a better tomorrow and a brighter future—we must work to reignite the American belief that together we can solve our most intractable problems, like violence, racism, and inequality.
