Congress has cleared a continuing resolution (CR) to fund the federal government at Fiscal Year 2016 spending levels through April 28, 2017.
The measure includes:
- $170 million in aid to address the drinking water crisis in Flint, Michigan
- $872 million in funding for the bipartisan 21st Century Cures Act
The CR also reinstates a controversial provision from Fiscal Year 2016 that prevents the Internal Revenue Service from issuing new guidance about what constitutes political activity by 501(c)(4) social welfare organizations.
The 114th Congress has now wrapped its legislative work for the year, exiting the stage approximately one month before the new 115th Congress will be sworn in to embark on what is expected to be an ambitious first quarter agenda, including taking steps to begin repeal the Affordable Care Act.
