The following is a statement by Daniel J. Cardinali, president and CEO, Independent Sector:
“This weekend’s events in Charlottesville should cause every one of us to boldly reaffirm the core belief that the very idea of racial superiority is repugnant, unacceptable and un-American.
Independent Sector wants to be clear that the provocative nature of the march underscored our obligation to stand up for peaceful, respectful protest; to single out and name hate when we see it; and to address racism and intolerance wherever it exists in our communities and institutions.
We at Independent Sector know that our desire for a country that promotes freedom and respects the rights of the individual must be more than wishful thinking.
We also know that the charitable sector, for-profit sector, and government are abundant with those who stand for good, and we look forward to continuing to collaborate as we work toward a nation that can be proud of itself and the future we will leave to our children.”
