The 2023 American Express NGen Fellows program is a non-residential fellowship that includes seven virtual convenings, and one three-day in-person gathering. Please review the 2023 program schedule below.
Reading, assignments, and collaborative group work will require a time commitment in-between convenings. Fellows should expect a commitment of 3-5 hours per month outside of meeting times. Fellows are expected to complete pre-work in a timely manner and begin convenings ready to fully engage.
Fellows are responsible for arranging their schedule to meet time demands of virtual convenings. In a virtual world, your time is a major cost commitment to be proactively managed among your professional and personal duties.
The program includes seven virtual convenings (via Zoom video conference) and will take place between 11-4 pm Eastern Time on these dates:

The registration fee, travel, and lodging are covered for Fellows.
It is also highly recommended that Fellows attend two Upswell Pop-Ups — opportunities for changemakers to gather virtually to hear from and exchange ideas about challenges facing the communities we serve.

Tuesday, April 25, 1-4 PM ET | Upswell Pop-Up |
Tuesday, June 20, 1-4 PM ET | Upswell Pop-Up |
Outside of meeting times, Fellows can expect to spend approximately 3-5 hours per month on program-related activities during the Fellowship. Fellows are expected to participate in and complete all assignments and projects related to participation in the program.
Failure to participate in convenings without making prior arrangements with Independent Sector staff may result in a loss of Fellowship status. Independent Sector staff will strive to maintain flexibility and understanding around balancing the ongoing pandemic impact to work/personal routines such as shifting work demand, work environment, work-at-home, changes in caretaking responsibilities, and self-care. Communication will be key from all parties in order to balance personal needs and the integrity of cohort learning.
Thanks to the generous support of American Express, acceptance into the program includes all fees, materials, and supplies related to the leadership development curriculum.
A stipend will be provided to honor your time and commitment to these convenings. Additionally, Fellows will receive complimentary registration to the three-day 2023 Upswell Summit in Dallas/Fort Worth, November 15-17, 2023, and travel and accommodation costs will be covered.
