The Senate Finance Committee held a hearing on “Charities and Charitable Giving: Proposals for Reform,” on April 5, 2005.

Among those testifying were:

  • Diana Aviv, IS president and CEO and executive director of the Panel;
  • Leon Panetta, director of Panetta Institute for Public Policy and a member of the Panel's Citizens Advisory Group; and
  • Brian Gallagher, Panel member and president of the United Way of America.

The Finance Committee also heard from: Mark Everson, commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service; Dr. Jane Gravelle, senior specialist in economic policy, Congressional Research Service; Mike Hatch, Attorney General of Minnesota; Richard Johnson, member of the Nashville law firm of Waller Lansden Dortch and Davis, PLLC; David Kuo, former special assistant to the President and deputy director of the White House Office of Faith-Based & Community Initiatives; and George K. Yin, chief of staff of the Congressional Joint Committee on Taxation.

All written testimony is posted on the Finance Committee's website.
