The selection process is as follows:

1.  The May 16 deadline for submitting nominations has passed.

2. From the nominations submitted, the selection committee will select six finalists for the award.

3. Finalists will be invited to participate in a virtual Leadership Forum with the NGen community on July 13 to share discuss issues pressing to young leaders and the nonprofit community as a whole. Finalists will also be asked to submit to the selection committee, two short essays which demonstrates transformative impact they already had beyond their organization and their core values as a leader.

4. Using the essay questions submitted, the selection committee will meet to determine the recipient of the award.

5. The recipient of the American Express NGen Leadership Award will be announced in late July and will receive recognition and a $3,000 leadership scholarship at the 2011 Independent Sector Annual Conference John Gardner Award Dinner on October 31, 2011 in Chicago.

Nominators will be informed about the status of their nominee by late-June.
