Independent Sector's 25th Anniversary Conference brings together almost 1,000 CEOs and senior-level executives from diverse segments of the charitable sector from across the country from October 23-25 in Washington, D.C. These leaders will focus on the social compact and the role the charitable community plays in its definition and fulfillment.

Under the theme “Reshaping the Social Compact,” the conference will examine a range of issues including:

• The complex set of relationships and responsibilities that constitute the social compact and ways to weave new communities into the fabric of society;
• Roles of government, business, and the charitable sector in the reconstruction process in the wake of Hurricane Katrina;
• How charitable organizations are working to shape policies that help them serve the public good as Congress considers major reforms to the nation's tax laws and changes in the rules for advocacy, funding, and charitable oversight; and
• The work of charitable organizations across the country to improve ethical practice and program effectiveness.
